The C57 class passenger steam locomotive was introduced as the successor to the C55 class, and was active on main and secondary lines throughout the country. Of the same model, No. 135 pulled the 225 train, the last passenger train operated by a steam locomotive on the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on December 14, 1975, and was later kept at the Transportation Museum, before being preserved at the Railway Museum.
