A mainstay of Amtrak trains across the eastern United States since their debut in the 1970s, Amfleet coaches can be seen in service on both corridor routes and long-distance service. Amfleet I coaches were the first made-to-order rolling stock acquired by Amtrak as the new national passenger service looked to replace its aging fleet of inherited legacy equipment. They are distinguishable from their newer Amfleet II counterparts by doors on each end with smaller inset windows and a higher capacity interior configuration.
Kato has announced pre-orders for this 4-piece bookcase set featuring Amfleet I Coaches #21200, #21226, and #21267 as well as Lounge/Cafe #20011 finished in Amtrak's iconic Phase III livery with equal red, white and blue stripes. This set additionally includes factory-installed lighting.
